I am your personal guide and companion throughout your entire Amazon experience. I am present and available 24/7. I know everyone living in the indigenous community, have a strong network in nearby villages, and am very familiar with the area. My role is to ensure you have the experience of a lifetime in a safe and secure way.
UpplevAmazonas is created and personally run by me, Elias Filhage Wahlström. I am a Swedish man from Gothenburg, living in the Amazon rainforest near the border between Colombia, Peru, and Brazil. During an extended journey to the Amazon, I got to know many local people and completely fell in love with the experience, which led me to move here permanently. I live in a self-built house in an indigenous community located along the Amazon River, a few hours by boat from the Colombian town of Leticia. I am the only Westerner in the community, but I feel like part of the family. My goal is to give more Swedes the opportunity to experience the incredible rainforest and the natural daily life of independent indigenous communities, while also contributing resources that help local people preserve their unique culture and way of life.
Getting in touch with independent indigenous communities and experiencing the Amazon rainforest in a natural, authentic, non-touristic way is not easy. It relies on personal relationships, language skills, and local knowledge. The advantages for a Swedish traveler of going with us can be summarized as follows:
